TEACH YOUR CHILDREN

E' il 1970, gli ideali per un mondo nuovo, quelli pacifisti, la ribellione ai valori ipocriti borghesi, stanno infiammando gli animi dei giovani. Tra i complessi musicali portabandiera di quelle idee c'e' il gruppo Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, che con uno stile folk-rock propone con successo brani di notevole spessore.
Graham Nash, che e' anche fotografo e collezionista di immagini, viene ispirato da un famoso scatto della fotografa Diane Arbus che ritrae nel Central Park un bambino con un' espressione di rabbia e con in mano un'arma giocattolo. La riflessione sul messaggio che lancia una tale immagine viene naturale, e concepisce un brano che e' un invito all'amore e un monito alla comprensione dei figli, con le loro problematiche, da parte degli adulti e viceversa, perché anche i figli devono conoscere le paure e i drammi che hanno vissuto chi li precede.
Una canzone in cui la pedal steel-guitar di Jerry Garcia gioca un ruolo determinante per ottenere un sound dolce, trascinante e di sapore country, mentre le voci del gruppo risuonano come un vero e proprio appello accorato all' umanità.
"Teach your children", conosciuta poi come "Teach", venne usata dal candidato democratico alla presidenza americana, Walter Mondale, come ausilio alla sua campagna per il controllo delle armi, un tema ancora attualissimo a decenni di distanza, e una canzone in grado di suscitare nostalgie e ancora emozione per i contenuti.
